For our customers who reside in beachside communities, we offer a small selection of hand-picked LED turtle friendly bulbs from EmeryAllen, specially designed for use around ecologically sensitive locations. Approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, these turtle safe bulbs are ideal for areas adjacent to sea turtle nesting beaches, migratory corridors and Dark Sky Friendly communities. Turtle friendly LEDs give off an amber color for safer illumination. This ensures that turtle hatchlings won’t be distracted and disoriented by the light, causing them to wander inland.
Specific rules require these bulbs to be installed in a shielded or downward directed location that safeguards the light source from being directly or indirectly visible from a nesting beach. Artificial lights that shine onto a nesting beach at night can draw turtle hatchlings away from the ocean and off the beach, where they have a slim chance of survival. Beach lights can also scare away females crawling ashore to nest.
